These 5 items got me through two pregnancies. I feel pretty confident – out of all the stuff out there – that you’ll love them too.
I’m definitely not a pregnancy expert, but after being pregnant twice, I can tell you with certainty which items I found to be worth the hype and which ones definitely weren’t.
Of course, every person and pregnancy is different.
But trust me, that huge pregnancy pillow? There are better options that don’t take up the whole bed.
Each of my pregnancies was super different. During my first pregnancy, with my daughter, I felt really sick during my first trimester and slightly better as the weeks progressed.
My second time around, I felt relatively okay during my first trimester, then progressively worse as the weeks went on. Honestly the only thing both pregnancies had in common was that I was vomiting pretty consistently during all 3 trimesters – lucky me 🤣
But, regardless of how different they were, these are items that I swore by in both my pregnancies.
And while I don’t think there’s one universal remedy for nausea (unfortunately), these are items that I feel confident are pretty universal.
I HOPE YOU LOVE THEM TOO!
1. Hiccapop Pregnancy Wedge Pillow
This pillow is everything.
It’s a small wedge pillow, so it doesn’t take up the entire bed like those big pregnancy pillows do.
I’ve used it to prop my head up when my heartburn was raging, and kept it under my belly for support too.
It’s pretty inexpensive (under $30!) and is super high quality.
Sleep is important and it’s tough to get comfortable enough to get a good night’s sleep while pregnant. Trust me, this pillow is a game changer.
2. lululemon Align™ High Rise leggings
Chances are, you’ve heard of these leggings. Before I was pregnant, I kept hearing about them but didn’t understand the hype. They are 1000% worth the hype.
These are the only leggings I have that I can comfortably wear during all of pregnancy, postpartum, and not pregnant too. They are SO stretchy and comfortable.
I got 2 pairs of the black ones while pregnant with my daughter in 2020 and have been living in them since (no really, I’m wearing them as I type this). They last so well and are such good quality.
I know they’re a little pricey for leggings, but these really stand the test of time (and bumps!). They miraculously fit from no bump to a 9 month pregnant belly. I’ve gotten them both in my usual size and one size up, and they both fit. Base your sizing off of your comfort level and your own body during pregnancy.
I also got this flare version during this pregnancy that I’m obsessed with. I’ll be wearing them long beyond pregnancy too!
3. HATCH Belly Oil
I was hesitant about this belly oil at first. I’m not one to shell out a lot of money on beauty products and I didn’t see the need for it.
But, at the recommendation of my sister in law, I decided to try it. And it’s AMAZING.
I use this belly oil on my belly and hips daily. It feels so good on growing and stretching skin.
As skin stretches, it’s prone to getting itchy, and this belly oil saved me. It also just makes the skin feel so nice and smooth.
It’s worth noting that this is marketed as stretch mark prevention too. So it’s important for me to be clear about this: stretch marks are normal and inevitable, especially during pregnancy.
I didn’t end up with many during my pregnancies, which may or may not be because of this oil. But either way, stretch marks are an unavoidable part of life and changing bodies and not things we need to prevent or hide.
Lastly, while this oil is a bit pricey, it lasts a long time. One bottle will last you a few months or more.
4. One good pair of maternity jeans
As much as I love throwing on leggings, it also feels good to get dressed sometimes.
And just because you’re pregnant, doesn’t mean you can’t put on an outfit that makes you feel good. In fact, this is something that I really recommend doing when you can. Getting dressed in clothes that fit well and feel good is so important for healthy body image.
I’m a big jeans person. So for me, having one or two great fitting pairs of maternity jeans that I loved was important.
Jeans were something that I was willing to spend a little more on. After all, they’re worn throughout pregnancy and afterwards too! I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth from them.
I like maternity jeans that feel and look like regular jeans.
These were a few of my favorites this time around:
PAIGE Noella Straight Leg Maternity Jeans
Hatch The Boyfriend Maternity Jean
5. TUMS
I can’t make a pregnancy post without mentioning the true hero of my pregnancy: TUMS.
Of course, talk to your doctor before taking anything, but I popped these like candy (maxing out at 6/day per my OB!).
While I didn’t find anything to be a true heartburn cure, TUMS always helped at least a little bit.
I keep these on my desk so that they’re always readily available.
Trust me, TUMS are a pregnant person’s best friend.
Have you tried any of these? Is there anything you think I missed?
Again, every pregnancy and person is totally different, but these items were definitely must haves for me. Most importantly, I hope you have a smooth and relatively enjoyable pregnancy.
You deserve it, mama!
