Banana Chocolate Chip Oaties
By Sammi Brondo — April 26, 2025

I used to make these oaties allll the time, and somehow, totally forgot about them. It wasn’t until I had a few extra ripe bananas on hand that I remembered to make them again… and now they’ll definitely be added frequently to my rotation.
They have only 3 main ingredients and make a perfect make-ahead breakfast or snack. Did I mention that they’re almost too easy to make?!
This recipe is so easy that it can barely even be called a recipe. You just mix mashed, ripe bananas, oats and chocolate chips together and then bake them. That’s it! Just 3 main ingredients.
If you’re feeling a little fancy (read: feel like taking an extra .5 seconds), you can also add cinnamon and vanilla extract to make these taste even better.
Grab 1 for a snack or even for dessert – I promise, they will not disappoint.
I’ve been having a few for an afternoon snack with a little bit of peanut butter all this week. It tastes SO good and most importantly, actually keeps me full until dinner. It’s a great thing to keep on hand for the week. Store these oaties in an airtight container in the fridge or pantry for 3-5 days.

Serve

Notes
- Bananas: Make sure these are super ripe! The riper they are, the sweeter your oaties will be. I like to freeze bananas when they’re really ripe if I have no use for them at the moment. That way, I usually have a stash of ripe bananas ready in my freezer. Peel them, slice them, and stick them in a Ziplock bag. Just defrost before cooking.
- Oats: Use quick cooking or instant oats. Steel cut oats will not work in this recipe.
- Chocolate chip: Opt for semi-sweet regular or mini chocolate chips.
- Mix ins: Try adding some peanut butter to the mix and/or add a dash of vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt for a little extra flavor.
- Cooking tips: The batter will be very wet. Use a tablespoon to tightly pack each oatie. Put it on the lined baking sheet and use the back side of the tablespoon to gently press the oatie together and round out the edges.
- Storage: Store prepared oaties in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months.

I have a banana tree with different size bananas. How many ounces/cups of mashed banana does. This oaties recipe call for?
I am making this weekend in regular muffin tins! Might need to experiment a bit with cooking time….Love this Sammi, thank you!
They are in the oven baking as I send this message you. They smell heavenly.
Next time I make them I will shave 4 minutes off the baking time and use only a half cup of chips.
I’ve made them several times and love them! This time, I didn’t want to turn on the oven, I microwaved them on a plate in batches for 2 minutes, perfect! Took to work and received tons of compliments
These are wonderful! My changes: add a little salt, chopped walnuts and about 1T chia seeds. A half cup of chocolate chips is a lot, a little less is better. I bake them in a mini muffin pan for a nice shape. I let them sit a few minutes before baking so the chia and oats can soak up some of the moisture from the bananas which makes for a more cohesive oatie.
