Ingredients You’ll Need
- Bananas: Make sure these are super ripe! The riper they are, the sweeter your Banana Chocolate Chip Oaties will be. I like to freeze bananas when they’re really ripe if I have no use for them at the moment. That way, I usually have a stash of ripe bananas ready in my freezer. Peel them, slice them, and stick them in a Ziploc bag. Just defrost before cooking.
- Oats: Use quick cooking or instant oats. Steel cut oats will not work in this Banana Chocolate Chip Oaties recipe.
- Chocolate chips: Opt for semi-sweet regular or mini chocolate chips.
Healthy Banana Chocolate Chip Oaties Tips and Variations
- Mix ins: Try adding some peanut butter to the mix and/or add a dash of vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt for a little extra flavor. You can also add other mix ins like walnuts or chopped peanuts.
- Bananas: If your bananas aren’t ripe yet, try placing them on a baking sheet and baking at 350 F for about 10-15 minutes. The bananas will be black on the outside, but perfectly ripe and ready for baking.
- Cooking tips: The batter will be very wet. Use a tablespoon to tightly pack each one. Put it on the lined baking sheet and use the back side of the tablespoon to gently press the oatie together and round out the edges.
- Storage: Store prepared oaties in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. You can also store these Banana Chocolate Chip Oaties freeze them for up to 3 months. I’ve heard from many people that they love these as postpartum meal prep!
