High Protein Banana Pudding
By Sammi Brondo — September 9, 2026
This High Protein Banana Pudding is creamy, delicious, and packed with protein. Made with simple ingredients and classic banana pudding flavor, it’s an easy, satisfying dessert or snack that’s perfect for when you’re craving something sweet.
Two things can be true at once. For example, the wellness world is a little too obsessed with protein right now. And protein is also a really important nutrient.
Does this mean we need to add protein to everything we eat? Absolutely not.
I saw protein chips in the supermarket the other day and that was a hard pass from me. I’ll take my chips protein-free as is, please.
But when recipes are naturally high in protein, it’s never a bad thing. Protein is important for satiety and muscle maintenance. In short: it helps to keep us full.
And that’s just one of many things that I love about this banana pudding. Split into 3 servings, it has about 17 grams of protein per serving, making it “high in protein.”
It’s also just a really delicious sweet option for when you’re looking for a snack or dessert that’ll keep you feeling a little more full and nourished.
Back when my husband and I first started dating in NYC, he would bring me the banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery all the time. Omg, it’s so good.
Now that we’re most than a decade out from that phase of life and are in the suburbs, my trips to Magnolia Bakery are far and few 🙂 But I still love their banana pudding.
It inspired me to make this simple, at-home version. I didn’t set out for it to be high in protein, but using Greek yogurt gives it that fun benefit.
And while this version is not the same as going to a classic New York City bakery, it’s definitely up there.
Easy, sweet, delicious, and satisfying. What more could you ask for?!

How To Make High Protein Banana Pudding

Prepare ingredients
Prepare all of your ingredients to make this High Protein Banana Pudding. You’ll need Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla pudding mix, vanilla extract, 1-2 medium-sized bananas, and vanilla wafer cookies.

Add yogurt mixture to bowl
In a bowl, add the Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla pudding mix, and vanilla extract.

Mix ingredients
Mix well until smooth and thoroughly mixed.

Slice bananas
Slice the bananas into even slices and set aside.

Layer banana pudding
In small, wide-rimmed glasses, layer the banana pudding. Add the yogurt mixture, followed by about 4-5 vanilla wafers, followed by the banana slices, and then more yogurt.

Fill 2-3 cups
Note that the amount of banana slices and wafers you use will depend on the size of your glass or jar – you want a solid layer of each that fully fills the glass or jar. Depending on the size of your glass or jar, you should have about 2-3 cups of banana pudding.

Serve
Top with whipped cream or Cool Whip and an additional wafer and banana slice.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Greek yogurt: I used plain non-fat Greek yogurt, but any Greek yogurt will do. For a sweeter yogurt mixture, you can also use vanilla Greek yogurt.
- Maple syrup: For a sweeter yogurt mixture, slowly add more tablespoon to taste (about 1 tablespoon at a time) and/or use vanilla yogurt instead of plain yogurt.
- Vanilla pudding mix: This adds sweetness and gives the pudding mixture that dessert-like taste. You can find it at any grocery store in the baking aisle.
- Vanilla extract: A little vanilla extract really brings out the vanilla flavor.
- Bananas: Opt for bananas that are ripe, but not overly ripe (like the ones you’d bake with). A banana that’s just starting to have some brown spots is perfect.
- Wafer cookies: These get nice and soft the longer the pudding sits in the fridge. It’s so good!
High Protein Banana Pudding Tips
- Layering the pudding: When layering the pudding in cups, make sure each layer fully covers the surface area of the cup so that you get a bit of each layer in each bite. I recommend short, wide glasses like these.
- Cup size: If you’re using a taller cup, you may need to add more layers of the yogurt, banana, and wafers – another round of banana slices and wafers, followed by more yogurt.
- Storage: Store banana pudding in the fridge. While this tastes best after sitting in the fridge for a bit, I recommend eating it within 2 days, as storing it for any longer will make the bananas and wafers too mushy.
