5-Minute Spicy Edamame Dip
By Sammi Brondo — May 7, 2026
Frozen edamame could be one of the most underrated foods ever.
Edamame itself is a whole food that contains plant-based protein and fiber. It’s full of important nutrients like iron, magnesium, and potassium.
It’s SO delicious and versatile. Edamame in pods with a little salt? The best snack ever. Or add shelled edamame to any salad or bowl.
And of course, there’s also the convenience and ease of frozen edamame itself. Remember: frozen produce is often just as nutritious as fresh.
In fact, I recommend frozen fruits and vegetables. Not only are they easier to find any season, but they’re also less expensive and last longer.
And frozen edamame is no exception.
I always have a few bags in my freezer. And while I normally eat it plain or add a little pizazz to the pods like with this Chili Garlic Edamame, this 5-Minute Spicy Edamame Dip has become my new favorite way to eat it.
The dip is a little sweet and a little spicy, which together, makes the most powerful flavor combination.
It’s unreal paired with crunchy vegetables and pita dips to dip — think carrots, cucumbers, radishes, and even jicama sticks.
Because edamame is full of protein and fiber, I also love turning it into a complete meal too. You can pair it with raw veggies, pita, and hard-boiled eggs for a simple lunch plate that comes together in no time.
Or try this dip as a spread for sandwiches (hello, the most delicious turkey sandwich ever?!) or even as a topper on toast.
A good dip can go so far and this one truly does it all. High in protein and fiber and full of flavor, it’s so satisfying.
Make this 5-Minute Spicy Edamame Dip for lunch, add it to your dinner spread, or make it as an appetizer for guests. The options are endless. Just make sure you make it 🙂

Notes
- Edamame: Frozen edamame is the hero of this recipe. Make sure to buy shelled edamame so that you’re individually taking the edamame beans out of each pod 🙂 Cook the edamame in the microwave and let it cool before making the dip.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic adds so much flavor. Just 2 cloves go a long way!
- Olive oil: Olive oil helps to make the dip smooth and blend evenly. You can swap it for a different oil of your choice (like avocado or sesame oil).
- Lemon: Lemon juice also helps to make the dip smooth, while keeping it bright and fresh.
- Basil: A little goes a long way! Just a little fresh basil adds flavor and color to this Spicy Edamame Dip.
- Honey: It may sound strange, but the sweetness that just a little bit of honey adds makes this dip so good. It helps to counteract the spice from chili crisp too. Don’t skip it!
- Chili crisp: This is what makes the dip spicy. For a spicier dip, add more. For a dip with less kick, add less. Just remember that a little goes a long way – if you’re adding more, start small!
- Water: Water is important to thin the dip slightly. With the 1/4 cup in this recipe, the dip is still quite thick. For a thinner dip, you can slowly add more water.
- Storage: Store this 5-Minute Spicy Edamame Dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
