Chili Garlic Edamame
By Sammi Brondo — February 16, 2026
I’ve been having a love affair with edamame lately.
I buy the frozen shelled version and make a batch each week to keep on hand. And by “make,” I mean that I put it in the microwave for 5-6 minutes.
It’s truly the easiest high protein and high fiber snack. Edamame doesn’t get enough credit!
This started when I’d order edamame with my sushi takeout order. I’d always have extra that I’d enjoy for the next day or so.
I’ve added edamame to savory breakfasts, eaten it with lunch, and as a snack. It’s so good!
So naturally, I knew I needed to incorporate it into my rotation outside of takeout. And there is nothing easier than a bag of frozen edamame.
One bag makes a lot, so you can keep it in the fridge to add with meals or have as a snack throughout the week. Edamame is high in protein and fiber, making it super filling and satisfying.
And it’s just so good! I always add a little salt when I eat it plain. My 2-year-old and I can’t get enough of it.
As much as I love regular edamame though, I started dreaming about all the incredible delicious things that could be done with it.
To start? This Chili Garlic Edamame. It’s loaded with flavor, like beyond. If you have an extra 5 minutes to spare, I really can’t recommend this one enough.
As far as snacks go, this is the ultimate in satisfying. Not only does it have the nutrients necessary to keep you full, but it’s also a 10/10 flavor-wise to really keep you satisfied.
Enjoy this plain as a snack. Dip it in sauce if you wish (although really, it doesn’t need any additional flavor). You can also add it to meal or throw it on top of your favorite salad.
However you decide to eat it, bookmark this recipe – it’s about to become your new staple.

Notes
- Edamame: Make sure to use frozen edamame in the shell. Eating edamame this way is half the fun 🙂
- Sesame oil: Sesame oil is a neutral enough oil that also complements the flavors in this recipe. If you don’t have any, you can also use olive oil.
- Garlic: This recipe is garlicky! For less of a garlic kick, take out a clove.
- Chili garlic sauce: This recipe is also spicy! For a less spicy version, try using less chili garlic sauce. I recommend starting with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon. You can taste the sauce before adding to the edamame and adjust as needed.
- Soy sauce: Adds a delicious umami flavor and saltiness.
- Maple syrup: This balances out the salty and spicy with a little sweet – it’s crucial!
- Cooking notes: When you mix the sauce, it will look like a very small amount, but trust me, a little goes a long way. It will easily cover all of the edamame when you toss it.
- Dip: You can dip the edamame in something like spicy mayo for more spice, regular mayo to cool down the spice, or even soy sauce. Personally, I don’t think it needs any added flavor.
- Storage: Store this edamame in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can eat it cold right out of the fridge!
